Jackson County, Iowa

Jackson County (656 square miles) was named after Andrew Jackson (1767-1845), hero of the Battle of New Orleans (1815) and seventh President of the United States (1829-1837).

Protected areas in the county the Maquoketa Caves State Park, Bellevue State Park, Driftless Area National Wildlife Refuge and the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge.

The 2010 census recorded a population of 19,848 in the county. The county seat is located in Maquoketa.
